Apostle Islands Sailing Adventure

3 days and 3 nights of sailing on a 60ft boat

Embark on an unforgettable journey this summer with our weekly sailing and camping adventure in the majestic Apostle Islands!

Each week, join a small group of  total explorers for a 4-day, 3-night expedition aboard a sailboat. Navigate the clear waters of Lake Superior, marvel at breathtaking sea caves and towering sandstone cliffs, and discover hidden coves perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

  • Comfortable accommodations: Relax while sailing as the sailboat is equipped with comfortable sleeping quarters and a fully equipped kitchen.
  • Learn new skills: See how larger sailboats run and operate, learn from an experienced boat captain, and learn how navigation systems can autopilot a boat.

Sailing Leader Guide

Details:

  • Capacity: Each week, we can have 8 people join in on the program. The boat captian does not count towards this 8-person limit, so an ideal crew would be 2 adults and 6 youth from the same unit.
  • Age Requirement: Participants must be 13 years of age or going into 8th grade to participate.
  • Lottery/Sign-up: As we have limited space in the program, participants will sign up for lottery spots. If we have more sign-ups for a week than spots in a week, we will randomly select groups to fill the space. The Lottery is open in the fall until the end of the year. Starting January 15th remaining spots are live.
  • Price: The price for the entire week is $700 for both youth and adults. $50 is due as a deposit at the time of registration. The deposit is fully refundable or transferrable to summer camp at Tomahawk Scout Camp for those who are not placed into the program.
  • Transportation: You will need to provide your own transportation to Bayfield, WI.
  • Food: Food is not included for the days on the boat. Your troop will need to be purchase food for the 3 lunches, 3 suppers, and 3 breakfasts on the boat. We will share an example menu with food that will pack and cook well while sailing. We recommend stopping in Hayward to pick up food, as there are very few cities on the way up.
  • Dates: This program is offered every week Tomahawk Scout Camp is running. You will select your preferred week when registering, but we also ask if you are available for any other weeks so you only need to register once.
  • Registrations: Registrations will be transferred to Tomahawk after registration opens for individuals in February.

Schedule

  • On the first day of your session, Sunday, you will check in as usual to Tomahawk Scout Camp.
  • On Monday, we will go over sailing basics, basic chart reading, food plans (see above), and other necessary information for the trip.
